Female CS GO Team Dignitas Will Compete in Valorant

Dignitas is a two-time world championship women’s team in CS: GO, and now that they are going to participate in VALORANT, it makes them the first pro women team to join the competition in various game titles.

Dignitas’s Past Success

Although it seems that all-men teams are the most common ones in eSports, girls were able to show that they can do it just as well. Dignitas wasn’t playing around. In fact, they participated in world championships in the past.

Luckily, their hard work as a team paid off. They were able to win back-to-back world championships, one in 2018, and the other in 2019. Because of their amazing set of skills and the wins they’ve had in the past, they are considered one of the best female teams in the world. In fact, they may be the actual best team of females in eSports. After so many successful events, they are now preparing for VALORANT.

Getting Ready for Valorant

The team is looking forward to its Valorant career. To start, they took part in two events, one of them being the ANEW Valorant Women’s 1K Open on May 16, and the other was the Elite Esports Rivalry Bowl International on May 17. Other major teams participated in the event, male as well as female teams.

According to the CEO of the team, Michael Prindiville, the team’s goal is to become the largest and most powerful organization for other aspiring female gamers. “Dignitas is a longstanding champion of women in esports” he said. “Since their recruitment in 2017, DIG FEhas raised four international trophies under the Dignitas banner; their expansion into Valorant is the first step in a larger women’s empowerment initiative the organization has planned for the coming months. Our goal is to become esports most empowering and educational organization for professional and aspiring female gamers, content creators, and fans.”

Is Valorant a Worthwhile Competitive Choice?

VALORANT developers Riot Games have been a little slow to promote and adopt a rank mode for the game. However, there has been no hesitation on the part of the team behind the game that VALORANT will develop as a fully-fledged eSports product.

Speaking to ESPN in an interview earlier this year, executive producer Anna “SuperCakes” Donlon and game director Joe Ziegler confirmed that the game would transition to a competitive title. In fact, it had been designed with eSports in mind, allowing players to have another worthwhile shooter to look forward to as a possible outlay of competitive ambition.

However, any such development would have to happen organically. Riot Games won’t try to artificially inflate interest in the game. Without promoting any aggressive campaigns at the release date, VALORANT managed to set several records on Twitch, quickly progressing to the top as the most watched game within the first week.

Part of that popularity was owing to the smart use of Twitch’s new feature, “Twitch Drops,” which allowed Riot Games to offer closed beta keys to anyone watching a VALORANT stream.

While real viewership numbers may have been lower than reported, the game still clocked impressive 34 million hours watched within a single day of release, breaking the single-day most watched record previously held by titles such as Apex Legends and Fortnite.

So, if the question remains whether the game is still a worthwhile choice of a game you can master and compete in, the answer is a resounding yes.

Who Else Is Competing in Valorant?

The community usually reacts well to the news of a new competitive game. New sponsorship and revenue opportunities are always appreciated by the best competitive outfits in the business. Therefore, VALORANT quickly attracted a number of established teams who compete in the game to this date, including 100 Thieves, Cloud9, Gen.G, Immortals, Lazarus, T1, Team SoloMid, Ninjas in Pyjamas, and of course, Dignitas Female.

100 Thieves didn’t wait too long to sign up an official roster and even host their own VALORANT tournaments, trying to bank on the popularity of the game, which has been a traditional move by the company.

What’s interesting about most signings is the fact that they come from diverse backgrounds. Team SoloMid and Cloud9, for example, are two competitive outfits that focus on League of Legends and have exceeded in that vertical.

However, Cloud9 is also the richest esports organization, according to Forbes. Meanwhile, there are more conventional teams, such as Ninjas in Pyjamas and even 100 Thieves, who have competed in first-person shooters (FPS) in the past.

Ninjas in Pyjamas are one of the most successful and, by all means, popular Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) teams in the history of the game. They are now branching out into VALORANT in an attempt to establish a sizeable footprint in yet another game. Meanwhile, Ubisoft announced its latest shooter developed by the same people behind Rainbow Six Siege.

Hyper Scape, as the project is known, is another futuristic shooter where the dynamics of the game create various gameplay and competitive opportunities. No team has yet signed a competitive roster for it, but this may soon change.
