Your appearance is one of the first things that other people see about you. It’s important to feel good about yourself and take pride in the way you look. If you have issues with self-confidence or body image, do not be ashamed to seek help! In this article, we present some tips on how to build up your self-esteem as well as how to improve life as a whole.
1. Exercise more
The number one thing that affects our appearance is being overweight! If you have never been overweight before but have recently gained a significant amount of weight then obviously it will affect your confidence levels. However, even if it’s just a few extra pounds – losing them can seriously boost your sense of self-worth and make life more enjoyable.
2. Dress nicer
Make an effort with your appearance! Even if you don’t have the time to get all dressed up, being always clean and tidy is the way to go.
Don’t judge other people by their appearance! It’s really easy to find things in common with someone just by chatting but often the conversation will steer towards fashion/body image etc. This is why it can be difficult to relate to someone that has a different attitude towards this sort of thing compared to you…
3. Stop with social media
Avoid social media websites if they make you unhappy…Seriously, who needs them? Especially when you consider all the cyberbullying and body shaming these days! There are many alternatives out there that are nice and quiet if
You want to chat with friends and talk to people without the stress!
4. If you hate your job, change it!
Working in an environment where people treat you like dirt is one of the worst things about self-esteem. Although it can be difficult to find alternative employment, sometimes it’s necessary if this is really having a negative effect on your life. This might be the best option of all if you spend a lot of time at work and hate every minute of it! It can also be very hard for self-confidence when carrying out a job that we find boring/unfulfilling so sometimes it’s necessary to start afresh in order to get back on track.
5. Stop feeling sorry for yourself!
A lot of people have issues with their self-image but not all of them let it get them down completely! And yet some people are naturally slim/tall etc but that doesn’t mean they don’t struggle at times with confidence levels. You might not be able to do anything about your situation just now but if keep positive and look forward then things will get easier and in the meantime, you can always surround yourself with people who help and support you. 6. Have a hobby!
Creativity is good for your mental health so if there is something that you really enjoy doing then this can give you a real boost at times when you need it – like after a bad day or when feeling down about yourself, etc. It’s also nice to have something to talk about with other people 🙂
7. Stop trying to please everyone else!
Don’t deny how you feel just because someone has made negative comments about your appearance in the past. Although there are some things we cannot change (height, hair color, the shape of the face, etc) we do not need to insult lying down and should speak out when someone makes us unhappy in this way. Sometimes people are giving out helpful advice but you don’t have to take it to heart!
8. Be your own PR agent
Dress accordingly and project the image that you want to be seen as! If y started to feel dark/dull then wear brighter clothes or accessories until you feel happier about yourself.
9. Make time for an evening pamper session
There’s nothing nicer than getting super clean, taking care of yourself! Treating ourselves is also an important key to self-confidence so set aside at least one evening per week where you indulge yourself!
10. Yoga
If you’re not happy with your body but don’t know what to do about it then why not try some holistic healing methods like Yoga or meditation? There is no better way of improving your mental and physical state than by practicing these things.
11. Value yourself more!
Try not to let anyone treat you badly because, even if they apologize afterward, that doesn’t mean it isn’t still unacceptable. Accepting bad behavior from people is a sign of low self-esteem so if you can, improve your attitude towards yourself and those around you!
12. Lower your standards
If you’re working as some sort of model then this is fine but for most people, it’s not necessary to raise the bar too high for ourselves because that way we will only end up feeling disappointed. Be realistic about what you see as ‘perfect’ and remember that nobody is perfect…
13. Smile more often!
Seriously, this makes a big difference because first impressions count…when someone first meets us they make instant judgments on our character without knowing much about us but even though this might seem unfair at times, the best thing to do is to give people the benefit of the doubt!
14. Be more assertive
If you want something then go for it, don’t be shy just because you’re worried that someone might judge you or criticize your actions. It’s hard to stick up for yourself sometimes but with practice comes perfection so keep telling yourself that it’ll happen one day if you really want it to.
15. Don’t feel bad about being single!
Everyone has to have time alone in order to learn how to be comfortable with themselves so if you’re currently not in a relationship then this is fine – take some time out and get to know yourself better. It’s much more fulfilling when you eventually meet someone who shares your same values because it means that the two of you are compatible!
